University of Mumbai CGPA to Percentage

What changed in 2026

For years, students used 7.1 × CGPA + 11, or the engineering variant 7.4 × CGPI + 12. Those formulas are no longer valid from 1 January 2026. If a blog or older PDF still shows them, they are out of date for this circular’s scope.

Conversion is not automatic. Only students who ask for it are considered. The college performs the conversion from actual marks. The University issues a conversion-percentage letter only when that letter is requested.

Estimate from semester marks

The box below adds marks obtained and maximum marks across semesters you enter (typically eight for a four-year degree). The estimate is total obtained ÷ total maximum × 100. It is labelled an estimate because the official figure is the one on the college or University certificate, including any pattern-specific exclusions the circular ties to CBGS/CBSGS batches.

What the 2026 circular says

1. Only students who specifically request conversion of CGPA/CGPI to percentage will be allowed to do so; the college does the conversion; the University issues a certificate only if a request is made for a letter of conversion percentage.
2. The conversion uses the student’s actual marks from all semesters, and the actual percentage is calculated from those marks.
3. Conversion is restricted to the applicable academic patterns (CBGS/CBSGS etc.) and their batches.
4. Previous circulars Exam/Com/97 of 2018 (17 Oct 2018) and Exam/Result/157/2019 (26 June 2019) are repealed.

How to get the official Mumbai conversion certificate

Ask your college to convert from actual semester marks and, if you need a university letter, request that letter through the college. This site cannot issue a Mumbai University certificate.
